Recent Work

Which of my photographs is my favorite? The one I’m going to take tomorrow.    - Imogen Cunningham

Put simply, this is a repository for a sampling of images from my most recent photo shoot. They are placed here before being moved to the appropriate gallery. These will change from time to time, so keep checking to see what’s new.

This set of images is from two separate excursions - to Leadville, Colorado and Zion National Park, Utah. I enjoy evaluating new locations and Leadville was a first time visit. At an elevation of 10,119 ft it is the highest incorporated city in the United States. The mountain ranges in the area are very impressive, the surrounding peaks are all above 12,100 ft. Mount Elbert, 12 miles southwest of Leadville, is the highest summit of the Rocky Mountains of North America and the highest point in the Colorado at 14,440 ft. Mount Massive, 10.6 mi west-southwest of Leadville, at 14,428 ft is the second highest summit in the Rocky Mountains and state of Colorado. Unfortunately, during our time there in July the view of these impressive mountains was partially obscured due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. The ever present white haze was a challenge to landscape photography.

Zion was not a first time visit, although it was a “first” for being there in the fall. The goal was to capture the autumn colors of the many Cottonwood trees that populate Zion canyon. I was partially successful, but I have to admit the timing was a bit early. The Cottonwoods were just beginning to turn yellow, and arriving a week or two later would have been ideal. Timing is refined through experience, so I hope to hit the target next time.
